I grew up in Knoxville, Tn. and as a teenager, I was a Life Guard at a public swimming pool. There were times when we needed to go to the bottom of the pool to either retrive lost items (money) or check for repairs, etc. And, we used this mask that connected us by a hose to an air compressor. After the first time of using this apparatus, I was hooked. I knew I had to scuba.
I attended the University of Tennessee (huge Tn Vol fan) for two years but went into the Army and stayed 7 years. I wanted to settled down and it so happened that the Houston Police Dept was hiring. I have now been with HPD for 33 years...I have officially retired. No more chasing bad guys.
The wait to scuba was long, however....by many years. I was OW certified in 1997, Advanced in 1998, Rescue in 2004 and was PADI certified Divemaster in 2006. I am active and work with a number of instructors out of Sea Sports Scuba. I intend to teach scuba in my retirement years.. No, I have not chosen a location for IDC. Sea Sport does offer IDC but the courses are few and far between.
For the past year, I have actually been employed by Sea Sports Scuba and have worked at all four of their stores. The problem with working at a dive shop...you tend to spend your money on all the new equipment that comes out. You guessed it..I have a whole new set . Two sets of Regs, three sets of fins, three BCs, etc. etc. and I want the Atomics Cobalt!!! what to do?
