Dove here on 08/27/17. Visibility for one of the PDRA quarries was surprisingly adequate around the outside edges (around 15 feet). Not quite as good in the middle and over the deepest parts of the quarry (10 feet). At the Shark Tank, visibility dropped to 5 feet or less.

The thermocline was at around 25 feet and, as already mentioned, the water was warm above the thermocline (low to mid 70°Fs). However, below the thermocline, temperatures dropped dramatically. On the first dive we saw temperatures at the school bus (65 feet) that were as low as 56°F. On our second dive when we went down to the Shark Tank (80 feet), my dive profile saw as low as 52°F on the ascent back up. Needless to say, with all of us diving 3mm wetsuits, even with hoods and gloves we didn’t spend a great deal of time below the thermocline.

We saw lots of fish including a Paddlefish and an Albino Catfish. Overall, two really good dives. I will go back here. However, next time I hope to be equipped with at least a 7mm wetsuit.

JMR is a good spot for recreational diving, and skills practice. It is C-O-L-D, so it really isn’t ideal for a 3mm shorty (although i have seen that). It has reasonable depth (90+ ft) which makes it somewhat unique in the area. I have conducted OW classes there, and it ’works’, but he shallow area is a bit on the small side compared to say, Fantasy Lake. The organization, and the quarry manager, have worked hard over the years to up-fit the on-shore facilities, and make it an attractive dive site. Kudos to them

Perhaps, the very best thing about JMR - and all of the PDRA quarries - is access. For you annual membership ($70), you get 24/7/365 access! Go to Fantasy Lake 4 times and you have already spent more on dive site admission than you will in a whole year at JMR. :)

PDRA Treasure Hunt. Water was warm at top, but thermocline was at around 18-20 feet where it dropped to around 65°. Visibility was fairly good at around 15 feet.

I went scuba diving here on 8/23/2015. Average viz: 21-25ft/6-8m. Water temp: 71-75°F/22-24°C.
Visibility was much better than expected. Could see at least 20 ft most of the time. Water was cold below 20 ft. Registered 51° @ 55 ft. But overall, a very nice day to dive.
