Looks like I’ll be doing a bunch of cave diving late this winter/ early spring! My first trip will be in Feb. with 3- 4 other divers. Next trip will likely be my CCR Instructor & myself to continue my CCR Cave education & the 3rd time will be in April with a newly minted cave diver, to give him some post training experience.

An Afternoon to Remember-
After 3 days of CCR Cave course & 5 days of diving for enjoyment, as we were getting gas fills before we leave for home this weekend, a friend that I have been helping, as I can, with his cave diving gave me a very special gift. The book "Caverns Measureless to Man" was signed by many of the pioneers of modern cave diving, my instructor, another friend I have helped out & this particular friend. I was completely clueless, floored, speechless, honored & humbled (& a little teary eyed). "Wow" was about all I could say, but certainly didn’t convey my thoughts.... I was completely overwhelmed..... What an awesome way to end a fantastic trip!

This past week I started my CCR Cave course on my Prism2 with Larry Babcock. For the most part it was a chance to become familiar with the unit in a cave environment & with the sidemounted bailouts I will be learning to use. Larry covered some skills with me, But basically took me over varying terrain & depth changes to allow me to learn to keep perfect control of my buoyancy. To be honest, in my case, I am glad Larry is taking it slow with me. I learn best with little bitty bites & I am in no hurry. If I had small issues during the dives, Larry would watch me closely, but let me work the problem out for myself. I must say, the quiet in the caves is astounding..... To be able to hear my own heartbeat whilst diving.... Just awesome! I can already tell, this is an activity I will very much enjoy doing. Now I know what I need to improve on. I will take those lessons home & work on them during the winter & come back next time to continue on to the next steps.

How often do you go to the quarry?
tstormdiver - 7/22/2014 2:07 PM
I typically am there 3/5 weekends, when I am not working the "real" job. Most weekends in the summer find me teaching classes.
mred5672 - 7/22/2014 4:03 PM
