Sorry to hear that , cant blame the site , it happens all the time , is there a club near you at all ?. I hope you do find some regular buddies

Even with dive clubs it happens, especially with shore dives where there is no depo$it required :(
Right now I’m on a stand by list for a NC trip hoping someone will flake out so I can go :)

It happens. Did the users give you a good excuse? Things do come up in others lives and you may have been the unlucky recipient of the schedule change. Dive clubs or shops in my area meet every week and there’s a predetermined schedule.

That’s just the tip of the iceberg of bad behavior out there. It happens all the time. I’ve had scores flake on me. I’ve gone on trips where I traveled four hours each way and paid for hotels and had my crappy buddy quit on me right at the edge of the water. For most people diving is a really low priority. Unless they have a good reason like they are sick or an illness in the family I don’t initiate contact with someone like that anymore and seek a replacement. One thing I have learned is I never attempt to persuade anyone to dive at all. I tell them all the bad things about diving and they should quit and sell their equipment. Unless they are enthusiastic I won’t dive with them. When you persuade an unenthusiastic person to dive you end up with someone who quits like that.

Yeah i know.I’m just super frustrated since i enjoy diving. It’s fun for me.It’s the one thing that i can do when i’ve had a bad day and once i’m underwater, there’s nothing that can bother me.Girlfriend is in the middle of getting certified so i won’t have to go through this too much longer.I still like meeting new people who enjoy this like i do.

Yeah,i feel like i shouldnt have to twist peoples arms to do something.I guess its either important to you or its not.Just needed to vent.oof

I guess I must be lucky. I’ve never had a dive buddy cancel on me.

I’m pretty sure there’s a specific reason why no one has cancelled on you.

From Diver4ever: Diver4ever - 15 minutes ago. I’m pretty sure there’s a specific reason why no one has cancelled on you. Probably because I’m very careful about selecting dive buddies.

From Airworks: I hear your frustration and disappointment, so let me encourage you to get Solo Certification.
The poster has stated they have 30 dives and you are recommending Solo Certification? Seriously? Do you remember the qualifications for Solo?

Most potential dive buddies have such awful buddy skills you are really diving solo anyway. Just because someone is under water at the same time as you doesn’t mean they have your back. Solo study helps prepare you for the reality that you will be abandoned and be on a solo dive from that point on. That SSI book is a good read.

From Airworks: The number of "official" dives is really irrelevant. I’ve met many divers who shouldn’t dive solo even though they have surpassed that number. I’ve also met fairly new divers who aren’t even close to that contrived number yet possess all the necessary skills, abilities, composure and self-reliance to become excellent solo divers. Dive Masters and instructors who are flexible and not tied to numbers are often very willing to allow even a newbie to take the solo test (both book knowledge and skill... Ok - I am not in that camp. A good instructor follows the agency rules regardless of they personally feel about them - that is what keeps the lawyers at bay when an accident (read death) follows from them skirting the the prerequisites.... Lawyers would have a field day with that one - he had 29 dives in a pool and 1 dive in a quarry so I gave him a Solo Cert - he was a great guy and really had some fantastic buoyancy skills... :-)

I agree with diverfrombaskingridge any instructor that would give a person with 30 dives a solo cert should have there instructors cert canceled.

I wouldn’t even consider thinking about a solo cert until I had atleast an AOW cert.
