I’m going down May 6th. I’m not 100% sure if I’m going to be spearfishing, I still have to see about regulations. Right now I’m trying to get an idea of what kind of fish I can take.

Spear regs are the same as above water fishing regs. Need saltwater registry.
Spear fishing isn’t a whim sport, it should be taken seriously, like gun hunting.
A pole spear is a good starting point, trying to get a flounder.
Stripped Bass should be good but a harder fish to shoot with more powerfull guns (more dangerious).
Maybe winter flounder could still be around.
Everything else is closed.

If it pans out I’ll be using a pole spear since I haven’t used a speargun. Thanks for the link.

Wound up going to the beach for vacation and found out I was only 20 minutes away from Atlantic Divers, so we made a trip to the shop and bought a 6 foot JBL pole spear. I just registered for recreational saltwater fishing for the 2017 season. Wish I bought a spear tip when I was there, now I’m not sure what spear tip is best for flounder or bass.

Chris,
The paralyzer tip works well for flounder and Black Sea Bass.
Pole Spear is no good for Stripers or Tog.

Put nail polish on your pole spear to mark 18" the legal length for summer flounder and one at 12.5" for Black Sea Bass and Winter flounder. These lengths can change.

Under water makes the fish much larger, the founder will let you lay the pole within 6" away without spooking to get a good measurement.

Never shoot a fish unless you say "holy shit". Above the water the fish shrinks a lot.
We don’t want to give spear fishing a bad name.

Be care and good luck.
Greg
