Hello Diving Community!
My name is Joe and I love to dive. I just moved from Colorado to Florida... tired of the snow and spent the last 25 years doing the mountain thing. It’s time to do the SCUBA thing now.

I’m looking for divers to dive with on a somewhat regular basis. I have my AOW, Nitrox love all types of diving. I am 47 years old and a bit out of shape, for now. But will be in shape soon! Another reason I moved here! So... If you are in to doing the dive tour of Florida (wrecks, reef, treasure, sharks, cavern etc.), camping and having some fun give me a shout.

Hey Joe, welcome to Florida!

I go to the keys a few times a year and should be heading down in April or May. If you need any recommendations for lodging or dive charters from Key Largo to Key West let me know. I usually post on here when I’m going. Right now I’m waiting to see if a guy I dove with in Cuba shows up in Miami in April and more than likely head to the keys. If not I will go in May to check gear for a 3 week trip to Bonaire and Curacao in June. Either way I usually post on DB as I did for June trip. A great perk here is the short flights to Central America and the Caribbean. It’s 3hrs or less with direct flights to most destinations either from RSW, MIA or TPA

I moved from 3 1/2 years ago from miserable Ohio and I don’t even look north anymore. 57 years of snow and cold was enough. I did the mountain trips from Ohio for 10 years, rocky mountain national park was one of my favorites. Was actually there July of 82 when Lawn lake dam collapsed in the high country and killed some backpackers and flooded Estes. I was actually listed as unaccounted for until I called home later from Arizona...that’s another story.

Anyway I can say I was at the top of the country backpacking and now to the bottom with diving.

Give a shout if you want..enjoy Florida!

BTW, I have always been in top condition, but getting older and arthritis problems from damage in my youth slowed me down and I got out of shape. I swim, use the gym in the community where I live and ride my bike year round and have lost 20lb since I have moved to sunny SW Florida. I can count on both hands how many day a year I don’t go outside and be active.

Hi Joe,
Welcome to Ft Pierce. I live at the north end of FP and would be interested in an occasional dive. There is good shore diving off Hutchinson island but finding a time when the seas are calm enough and vis is reasonable can be a challenge. Seas tend to be calmer during the summer so perhaps we can find some opportunities before too long. I also like to dive Blue Huron Bridge which is very shallow but has lots of small creatures you seldom see elsewhere. BHB is listed on the dive sites area and you have to dive on the high or low tide – preferably the high with entry about an hour before high tide. Great site for macro photography but only occasional large creatures. Another nice thing about BHB is about every other week (depending on time of high tide) local dive shops sponsor free night dives (you must register and get a card for your car to avoid a ticket as park access at night is regulated). Also Pura Vita dive shop normally has a DM guide there night dives at the bridge, so you do not have to have a buddy and still have a dive partner. In any case I am out of the water for at least two weeks while my wife recovers from surgery but if you want to get together occasionally after that let me know. I am retired so anytime is possible. Also there are some charters out of FP and Vero, and Jupiter is noted for regular encounters with sharks and grouper.
