Does anyone know if the PADI’s Emergency First Response Course Counts Toward Master Scuba Diver? I have heard mixed answers, and of course since it is the weekend, PADI is not open to ask their training Department.

Yes. It’s a prerequisite of the rescue diver course which you need for the master diver cert.

As stated ,its a prerequisite , as well as O2 for the Rescue course , but if you have an equivalent cert IE DAN D.E.M.P. it is excepted as ( EFR/O2). I just did my PADI Rescue and already had my D.E.M.P., but sat in on the EFR/O2 as a refresher.

There are a few specialty cert’s you can get that counts toward Master Scuba Diver that are not in-water
Diving courses (ie: Equipment Specialist; Sea Signs; Project Aware; etc), but I don’t see EFR listed as one of them in the Specialty Instructor Manual. As mentioned before, EFR is one of the prerequisite for Rescue Diver, which you need to complete (along with 50 logged dives) before you can apply for Master Scuba Diver certification, so you probably should count on taking another specialty course in its place.

1. Whale Shark Disrinctive Specaility
2. Project Aware Specalist
3. AWARE Coral Reef Conservation
4. Wreck Diver
5. Nitrox

I am certified through another agency as a DiveMaster. I am currently in the PADI DM program close to finishing up, as everything in my area since I moved is PADI. I have been diving since 2012 and have approx 175 dives under my belt. In September, my partner and I are going to rainbow river, fl and doing the PADI deep diver, PADI cavern diver, multi level diver, and dvp diver.

I had a few people on scuba board give me grief so I apologize if I sound defensive.

...the courses diver’s select really tell alot about where they want to go with their diving career. Nice choices, I’d really like to get in on one of those Whale Shark Distinctive courses! That would be awesome!

My background is in Marine Biology and Ecology, so the AWARE courses have a natural draw to them, at least for me. However, I also like to take courses that are just fun at times as well. My search and recovery course is higher level than PADI’s because it is a full Search and Recovery Pubkic Safety Diver level 1 Awareness, so I really have no desire to take that course again lol.
