How anonomyus is this thread really????

When I start a thread here, like this one, then every time someone answers I get an email telling me who answered it! So how can that be, if it is supposed to be anonymous????

The servers always know, and I’m sure Greg could figure it out if he wanted to. But your name isn’t being posted on here so I don’t know who you are.

But I’ve never understood the need for anonymity on a social networking site.

Actually, the email that you get about someone replying to a forum doesn’t contain their member info...so it is anonymous.

It contains their name, ans sometimes their photo. So it is like posting to any thread.

Why do you not want any one to know who you are. You may be a person that has to be blocked. So who are you and what are you afraid of ? I think I will send this to Greg to let him decide if a anonomyus person should be allowed to post forums or blogs.

What is the purpose of having a forum thread named Anonymous like this one we are writing in now, if everyone will get a email telling that I answered, exposing my picture and name here?

I thought that this was ment to be a space were we can be anonymous!

This is Greg, I designed the site. I can tell you that if someone replies to your anonymous forum, the creator of the topic will get an email notification that someone replied to their forum. However, the email does NOT contain the picture or member screen name or any other identifying information. The email is sent from divebuddy and NOT from the person that replied to your forum.

If for some reason you do get this information in an email notification about a reply to one of your anonymous forums, please bring it to my attention immediately. But all my code and all my tests indicate that no information is given out in the email notification.

So YES, the Anonymous forum category is to be anonymous. Any errors should be brought to my attention. And I feel it’s very OK to have an anonymous category on divebuddy. It doesn’t mean you up to anything sneaky and you don’t need to be reported. Sometimes things in this industry are better said without your name associated with it. It helps to get an honest opinion from someone and those opinions may help improve the scuba industry.

Thanks, Greg.

Well, Greg I have got some emails telling me that someone answered my Anonymuos forum. and I saw their faces and their screen name.

That is why I started this thread.

Unfortunately I deleted the emails, can not tell you anything about them now. But if it happens again I promise to get back to you.

Thanks for a great site.

I think the OP is confused. He swears he got emails with names and photos. But the evidence is all gone. It’s a serious enough issue to start a forum thread but not to save the emails? Yeah, right.
