Panama City Beach Florida,Two retired F-101 Voodoo jets are now artificial reefs

“Five minutes after the planes touched down, there were red snapper inside.” So says Pat Green, owner of Panama City Diving in Panama City Beach, Florida, where two retired F-101 Voodoo Air Force jets became artificial reefs on June 27. They’re now 76 feet below the surface, 3 nautical miles from shore and 8 nautical miles from the Saint Andrews Pass.

I saw that on SportDiver and wondered, where have these planes been? They retired in 1984 but then I guess that’s how they ended up in Florida!

The planes were display pieces. One was out side the Marina Civic Center while the other was on display in front of the local community college.

I personnally dove on them the day after they were sunk. One is upright while the other is unfortunately upside down. I’ve now dove on them 4 times in total and it’s been great seeing the marine life start to appear (even saw a lionfish on one of them, but was unable to kill it).
