I offered to help but it is a long shot this far down the road. The research will do more to locate this then the diving will anyway.

I don’t see anything about what kind of plane it was, if it was a fabric covered trainer there might not be much left other than the engine.
The Akron was 600’ long, the Navy knows where it crashed off NJ and it’s never been found but those Packard engines probably sunk into the sand.

This happened in 1947 so there were lots of aircraft left over from WWII to use and this guy was a very experienced pilot so I would not expect him to be in a trainer. I would expect that there is a lot of deep mud in this area so whatever is left of this plane maybe 100% buried.
