Thinking of doing a snorkel/dive with manatee at Crystal River, wondering what else there might be in the line of an inexpensive (state park) or free dive to do in the area to round out a day out there. Any advice or spots to check out is appreciated.

First of all, I’m so glad you’re going! Our family (ages 9 through 50+) went 2 years ago and it was beyond amazing and it’s something that you will never forget! We rented a big pontoon boat since there were so many of us however, check out this website for state park info: http://www.floridastateparks.org/manateesprings/

Also, here is a little article I wrote about our trip. I’m not sure if it will have details you were looking for but you can skim over it! http://www.divebuddy.com/blog.aspx?BlogID=10338

Please do yourself and everyone else a favor while in Crystal River. Only go out to interact with the manatees with a respected local charter business. The top two in the area are Bird’s Underwater and American Pro Diving.

This is for your safety and for that of the manatees.
I have been putting together trips for my local group to do this for almost 10 years now and we have never had an incident when using either of these businesses.
Enjoy your trip! Interacting with manatees is an awesome experience!!
