Drysuit Undergarment Recommendations

Hey buddies, need some recommendations. I just got a new Whites Fusion Drysuit and I still need to get my undergarment(s). Does anyone have good recommendations on the options out there? Or even what could be used that is probably in my closet anyway? My intent is mainly cold water use while I’m here in the Pacific Northwest and then diving in the Atlantic for later on. Thanks all.

There are several available such as DUI,Whites, USIA ( a Washington State company ), Henderson. Usually if they make a dry suit they also have under garments for various temperatures.

You could use a number of garments from flannel PJs to a manufacturers specifically designed product.

You need to vary the undergarment due to water temperature variations. For the warmest dry dives I use basic champion sweats. Anything warmer and I dive wet. (55F and above) Next stage I add a set of polypropolene long underwear. Then I switch to a hollis AUG 100 undergarment and if that isn’t enough alone I’ll add the poly underwear with it. I also use thermotec socks with the drysuit.

I would strongly recommend Whites new undergarments, Thermal Fusion. The fact that you just bought a Fusion suit would suggest that you considered the option of Whites undergarments also?
I just purchased them and have nothing bad to say. Thermal Fusion is like the mobility of a ninja, the warmth of your first kiss and the comfort of a lover on your birthday. Of course anything that good must have a significant price tag, however, it does have exactly that a significant price tag. It is around $500 CAD. Since you just made the investment in a good suit though, that suit deserves good undergarments.

I’m with Rob. You don’t need to spend a ton of money on undergarments. If you diving under the ice heavy undergarment is almost a must but anything around 55 to 60° you can use fleece. If you feel cold on your first I’d can double up on the fleece. If you have soft socks on your dry suit with some heavy wool socks. For your legs you can wear cold-weather gear that bicyclist wear in the cold-weather. If you know somebody with a snowmobile suit that may work also. It may sound like I’m a cheapskate 500 bucks for an undergarment is crazy. I have one from bear that’s fleece on the inside in nylon and the outside works very well but it’s difficult to part with that kind of money, I’d rather buy a better flashlight. Switzer good to but if they get wet you get very cold. Viking also sells a new undergarment that’s very light and very warm but it’s also $425. Good luck dry suit diver.

Thanks all. For right now I’m trying to stay minimal with cost for the undergarments. The suit took a big chunk out of the wallet. I typically dive warm and I’m not planning anything colder than about 50 degrees for the immediate future. I’ll take all your comments and blend them. Really appreciate the feedback.

I outgrew my Mobby’s undergarment 400g Thinsulate and didn’t want to pay those $300-500 prices so I looked around.
Found a guy on eBAy that sells fleece undergarments for drysuits. I dive in Monterey, CA 45-52F cold water so I got the undergarment call the 4way Antarctica for $89.95 +$14 shipping. I wore a spandex jumpsuit underneath to add a little more insulation but after the dive I don’t think I needed it. My dive at 60ft 45 degree temps while taking photos was warmer than with the original undergarment. It’s fleece and does NOT have a nylon shell. I had a leaky shoulder dump valve so my left sleeve area was a little damp but I never felt it during the dive. Only after I took my drysuit top off, I saw the water beads.

Search for eBAy seller rondel101bjrr and check out his online store.

Hit the sports stores for ski pants on sale or priced to get rid of at the end of the season. Add a fleece jacket, thermal underwear top and thick wool socks and you have what it takes. I have 400g and 200 g DUI undies and dive with the ski pants more often than not.
