Will be in Ft. Lauderdale area 09/10-14 and looking to do as much diving as possible. I am not opposed to boat diving but would like to do some shore diving to save a little money. Would really appreciate anyone in the area who knows some cool spots to show me around and get some dives logged. I am currently open water certified, signed up for advanced but haven’t gotten classes scheduled yet, and I only dive air. Would be comfortable with anything up to about 90ft, I dive a computer. Thanks, Avi

That will be prime time to be off shore for Goliath Groupers and baitfish balls off WPB and Jupiter, not sure if they go to FLL.

Lauderdale-by-the-sea is good for shore dives, see "Dive Sites"

Thanks, Ill look into it. I would like to find a dive buddy, what is the current like shore diving there? Any major concerns with solo diving?

I rarely have a buddy at Blue Heron Bridge but there are always divers there if you want to join up with them.

I have done Lauderdale-by-the-Sea solo but I would want a buddy if I was heading out to the third reef. There just do it as a drift dive and then walk back up the beach to your entry point or just come back closer to shore where there is less current and swim back.

I only did Dania beach once when my son lived there and I don’t remember any current issues that day but viz sucked so we didn’t spend a lot of time there.

I’ve been to Lauderdale-by-the-sea (deep blue divers). That is a pretty nice site. The shop is one block from the beach and is very helpful getting you into the water. I went out to the first reef, saw eels, nurse sharks and a sea turtle.

Thanks, I will be sure to check that out. Really looking forward to some time in the sun and some good scuba.

As you can see you have picked a great place to go diving, with lots of opportunities. I would suggest if you are looking for buddies, do a search on here and email a few of them directly. That is what I did and found about 3 buddies to dive with on a previous trip. Additionally, there is a great meetup group in the area that has regular dives scheduled, can check them out at http://www.meetup.com/goldcoastscuba/.

Have fun, I know we always do when in the area :)
