I’m unemployed & looking to set up another dive vacation to some place that I haven’t been, before I potentially start back to work mid-August. It seems like I can only take a nice trip in between jobs, so that’s what I doing. Considering this time of year & a place that’s not too expensive for a single diver, where would you go?

I’m currently looking @-Roatan, Honduras; or Belize; or Tortugas, FL; or Bonaire (northern portion); ?

I’ve enjoyed the following but would like to try something new-Cayman Isl, St. Thomas/St. Maarten; Maui, HI;Cozumel, MX; Flower Gardens (Freeport, TX);

Last year we went to Bocas Del Toro, Panama. It’s on the eastern side of Panama in the Atlantic and is surrounded by a beautiful rain forest Archipelago. It’s beautiful, secluded, has a fun night life, the diving is fantastic and everything there is dirt cheap. I have a friend who owns a private residence on the Island of Bastimentos if you are looking for a tucked in place to spend your surface intervals.

Just for reference... Beers are less than $1US and you can get a made from scratch pizza for $5.

If you’re going by yourself, try Ambergris Caye in Belize. I like Amigos del Mar and you can stay at the Mayan Princess.

Tobago is also great. If you’ve never tried drift diving, I recommend it! It takes no effort and you use only a little air since the current pushes you. I stayed at the Blue Waters Inn in Speyside and used the dive shop next door. I was basically a single diver there and had no problems. I brought my mother but she doesn’t dive.

Bonaire might be tricky as it’s a lot of shore diving. There isn’t much organized diving and you would want to arrange to meet a buddy there before you go.

Thanks for the info. I’ll keep an eye on flights to Belize but will look online @ Tobago as well.

Thanks. I haven’t done any shore diving, so it’s good to know what I would be getting into.
