Cocos Island

Has anyone been to Cocos Island? I’m thinking of going next year.

I’m researching live aboards and the only ones I can find are the Agressor, Wind Dancer and Sea Hunter with trips starting at $4200. I know those boats are pretty luxurious but are there any options that are more budget friendly?

Thanks.

From PastorG: Blackbeards-cruises.com, may not be the location your after but for about $1000 to cruise, it may not matter to you. Just be ready for a more "camp-like" experience.

Even if Blackbeards was in the same ocean as Cocos Island that would be a long long ride offshore at the speed those 65’ sailboats move!

As far as I know those two liveaboards are your only choices, they are always booked solid so plan ahead and being you spend a day traveling each way to the island fuel cost are a big % of that price.

I went a few years ago and it was AWESOME. Seriously, it’s like being in a National Geographic video. Because of the island’s strict regulations, only two dive boats are allowed there at a time, and those boats you mentioned are the only ones that have contracts that allow them to be there. I went with Aggressor, which is significantly cheaper than Undersea Hunter, and I suppose a little less luxurious. But you’re in the water so much that it doesn’t matter what amenities the boat has (in my opinion). The food was good and the crew was great! Bring a scopolamine patch for the one and a half day open ocean crossing to the island (and for the return trip). It can get really wavey and several people were seasick.
