Scuba Gifts

Do you mind getting scuba gear as a gift? I prefer to pick out most of my own gear for the most part. My friend asked his non diving wife to get him gear for Christmas. Problem is she doesn’t know anything about diving or its gear. My primary gear is stuff I picked out myself, but I would keep gear given as a gift as a backup. What do you think?

[Choose #2] Anyone that knows me would either find out what I really wany/need from a dive buddy or give me a gift certificate to my favorite dive equipment vendor or dive shop.

[Choose #2] I bought all my own gear, but a gift I would likely use too, but depends on exactly what piece f gear was given.

[Choose #3] I don’t care who bought it. What’s important is whether it is the right gear. If someone else gave me quality gear, I’ll use it. If a piece of gear is crap (split fins, pistol grip light, snorkel, etc.) I’ll throw it away, even if I bought it.

[Choose #2] My wife doesn’t dive but I use tools such as the internet to find and print off things I might want so she will know what she is looking for. I also let her know who has it for what price.
