Thoughts about Internet dive shops.

I have ties to three dive shops, that both are semi active on Divebuddy. Two are top-notch shops that provide charters, the other is part of a chain of dive shops that is also an internet shop but does offer educational services from several certifying agencies. The people at all of these places are what I would most certainly consider friends as well. The feed back is mixed, one does not like it, one said it really does not matter equipment was only 10% of business (40% service and airfills, 50% equipment rental & charters). The other shop which is also part of an internet sales company (not LP) said it may be a positive for him, there pricing was similar, but they can put it in the customers hands quicker. As an active diver and a family of divers I would have to say considering all of the gear I own including tanks, regs, computers, wetsuits, fins, cameras, bags and so on, I put the value of my equipment in the following break down. 25% used, 30% internet purchased, 45% local shops. I am curious as to the rest of you divebuddies out there, please choose the answer that most closely meets your totals, at this time. Even know a few people that helped me come up with the choices said their future purchases will be much higher on the internet because of choices not just price. I actually can say I do not know one diver that has never bought gear from an internet shop. This survey is for what you currently own or have purchased and is the percentage of value or cost not #’s of items.

[Choose #1] I do a lot of price research online, then head off to my diveshop and haggle the price.

[Choose #4] I ordered a wetsuit at a local shop 3 months ago ...and am still waiting ....all my internet ordered items arrived on time. I’m dissapointed with local shops because of this and their salesmen don’t want to refund my money.
