Looking for info on Spearfishing in Key West

Just like the title says...I’m looking for some information about available charters, operators and spearfishing for the Key West Area. I was thinking about going to the Sea of Cortez but it’s starting to get a bit pricey at the moment and the trip I was booked on does not allow spearfishing. Plus bringing it back is a whole nother challenge. With cheap airfare to Miami I am thinking about putting together a trip to down to Key West in the next month or two. It’s been a few years since I’ve been there and I’ve always had a good time there.

I also want to spearfish and bring some fresh mahi and maybe some wahoo, if I’m lucky back, home. I am also not aware of the rules/regs for Florida spearfishing so if anyone can shed some light on that please do.I think I just have to purchase a 1 wk license, right? Also, what else is a good catch besides the two I mentioned?
Thanks ahead of time for anyone that takes the time to reply to me! Much appreciated!

Hey ! I am going to Key Largo around Oct 19th. There are several good dive operations there - Ocean Divers is one of the best, they have a web site or contact them by phone, they should have all the info you need. Don’t know much about KWest. If you are going down there around then, let me know and maybe we could hook up for a couple dives. Thanks; Ted J>

Haven’t had any luck yet finding a dive boat to spearfish off of. Seems as though most dive operations are based off of the national park reef system, which of course doesn’t allow hunting in.
