There is an active dive club that meets one Tuesday night each month in the city, I used to make the trek when it was Thursdays because the meetings are usually very informative. http://oceanbluedivers.com/
There is also a Long Island Association of dive clubs, I did a clean up dive at Oak Beach with them. I’d give you a link but my favorites dissappeared off my work computer this morning :(
If you are thinking about taking a camera on a dive there is http://www.NYUPS.org which also meets each month in the city.
In March you’ll want to go to BeneaththeSea.org, you are just accross the river from the biggest consumer dive show in the country :)
If you are coming down to the Jersey shore PM me, I usually do Shark River a few times during the summer and fall to keep the gills wet.
