I just returned from Key Largo yesterday. I spent a week on Molasses and Pickles reefs. I live on the Crystal Coast of NC and have ready access to "The Shipwreck Graveyard of The Atlantic". That said I would not wreck dive in the Keys unless I lived there. On this trip I stayed at the Tavernier Inn and Hotel. It’s on the south end of Key Largo in Tavernier. It’s not the Ritz Carlton but it’s quaint and convenient. If you stay there you must visit the Sunrise Cuban Restaurant next door. They have the best Cafe con Leche on the planet. Molasses reef was awesome for coral and marine life but you can’t spear fish there so we did all our hunting a couple of miles south on Pickles reef. It was highly productive and we had a great fish fry every night. If you need gear I would recommend Scuba Outlet on the north end of Key Largo. Warren will take good care of you and you can’t beat his prices. I would also eat at Ballyhoos, tell Eddie the bartender I said hello. I hope this helps. Have fun and safe diving!
