I plan on being in the Jacksonville area around the first of June with my 12 year old son. We initially had plans to complete his open water certification dives in Pensacola but now that the gulf is dealing with the oil issues, I’m looking for diving other than the gulf. Since he is a Jr diver, he is limited to shallow depths. Are there any good dive spots we should look at in the Jacksonville area? Shallow reefs, minimal currents.??? Thanks for your help.

The springs are great for beginners and young divers. This is a pretty thorough list of the ones here in Florida.

Also, they are a good alternative to the gulf for Open Water certification. Drop me a line if you wan to get him certified while you’re in the area.
