This is a quarry in Waxahachie, TX. The easiest access is from the back of the Best Buy at 1168 US-287 BYP, Waxahachie, TX 75165. You can drive up almost to the edge of the water even in a low clearance car if you are careful. The off road path is dirt so it becomes muddy if it rained recently. Large numbers of perch, numerous large clams, a few small bass, some turtles, and the occasional large bass live there. The water level varies and the deepest you can get is about 25ft. Almost the entire quarry bottom is thickly covered in various species of marine plants in the summer. The plants usually mostly die off in the winter. The viz is usually pretty good in the summer and pretty bad in the winter. There can be a thermocline some parts of the year but this goes away in the summer and the entire water column gets nice and warm. There is no shade in the surface hang out area. The shore is primitive with no improvements of any kind. There are lots of restaurants in the area. It’s a popular fishing and swimming hole so expect company. There are no air fills or scuba support of any kind so you have to bring in everything you will need. It’s a lot like going to Clear Springs Scuba Park but without having to pay $20.

First dive of the year! Not much to see, was trying out new computer and working on navigation. Cold but I was happy to get back in the water

Good place to practice skills or test gear. Not worth a long trip and certainly nothing to explore. I remember a lot of red-eared slider turtles hanging at the surface and darting down at us when they realized something was beneath. Interesting fact.... Most of the material removed from this lake was used in the construction of Hwy 287.

First time I’ve had my ear bitten by a perch, and my fin strap broke, was able to rig it together to complete the dive though

Perch attack ears and moles. Sometimes they will draw blood. A hood protects my ears. I had three moles frozen off. Perch don’t bother me anymore.

Getting clearer! I had a little air left over from
yesterday’s dive so I came to see if it was clearing up, vis was about 8 ft, I could see the toe of my fins and a little further. The perch were extememly interested and saw a group of bass by the island. Haven’t found anything deeper than 15 feet

It’s usually much clearer. Rain washes in dirt and reduces the viz and it just rained.
Jared84 - 6/26/2017 11:26 AM
I looking forward to catching it on a clear day!
