Long Lake is a favorite place for scuba divers to explore because of the lake depth and water clarity. The water in Long Lake is unusually clear. A test disc lowered into the lake can be seen 18 feet down compared with the 5 foot average in Minnesota lakes. At the turn of the century, Long Lake was used by logging companies as a holding area for logs waiting to be loaded onto railcars. These logs were landed at the northwest end of the lake where today you will find the boat ramp and picnic areas. Today the remains of the railroad trestle are still visible at the southeast end of the lake. Sunken logs, boats and other treasures are yours for exploring at the bottom of Long Lake.

Amid the towering pines in northwest Minnesota, along Highway 200 near Bagley, Long Lake Park is a popular place for scuba divers and fans of the deep woods. At the turn of the century, logging companies used Long Lake as a holding area for logs before loading them onto railcars. The logs were loaded at the northwest end of the lake where today visitors will find the boat ramp and picnic areas. The remains of the railroad trestle are still visible at the lake’s southeast end. Sunken logs, boats and other treasures can be explored. The lake is part of a 53-acre park with several amenities to serve visitors, including scuba equipment rentals. The lake is 5 miles from Itasca State Park. Depths to: 80 feet (24 m) Visibility: Clear enough that fishermen can see fish bite. Aquatic life: Includes trout, northern pike, smallmouth bass, sunfish, crappie. Fees: Daily camping rates are $16-$22. On-site amenities: Campsites, tent sites, RV sites, grocery/supply store/laundry facilities, beach, picnic shelter, fire pits, hiking trail, fishing boats, playground, horseshoe pits, basketball court, volleyball courts, paddleboats. Good place for your basic dive training.

this place was great for my first open water dives to complete my open water cert. i was here 4-5 of June 2011 just before the pollen flies from the trees and we had about 20’ of visibility. Although that early in the season the water was a bit cold at 52 Degrees.

I went scuba diving here on 6/23/2013. Average viz: 5-10ft/2-3m. Water temp: 61-65°F/16-18°C.
pollen was thick but was a good dive because it was our final open water Happy Happy Happy
