Columbia Reef (Deep and Shallow) - Mexico

Loading...
Columbia Reef (Deep and Shallow) is a boat accessible salt water dive site, located in Cozumel, Quintana Roo, Mexico. This dive site has an average rating of 4.61 out of 5 from 66 scuba divers. The maximum depth is 81-90ft/25-27m. The average visibility is 101-110ft/31-34m. This dive site provides bathrooms and airfills.

There’s Columbia Deep and Columbia Shallow. Columbia Deep starts just after Devil’s Throat with a dramatic drop-off. Watch for large groupers and turtles. Current is usually mild here, but it’s a vast area, so you could do several dives to cover the entire area. Depth is 80-100 feet. We saw a seahorse once at about 80 feet. Columbia Shallow is only 20-40 feet deep, but it’s an incredible area with lots of coral sealife. Great area for snorkeling, too . . .but you have to get there by boat.

Turtles, turtles, turtles. If you like turtles you will likely see them here. Water was super clear. Got down to the 100’ mark almost without even knowing it. The water is so clear depth can be deceptive in Cozumel, so mind your instruments. Loved it. Love Cozumel in general. Do it. Do it. Do it.

Dove this site April 2012. Fantastic swim throughs. Abundant life. Great drift dive. Saw two very nice Nurse Sharks.

After a few times in Cozumel I think Columbia is like heaven on earth. Have to make it one of the last dives because almost nothing compares to it.

More neat canyons, swim thru’s and overhangs, I liked this better than Palancar and we saw a few small turtles. Under the overhangs were Blacktop Basslets.
