Two dives at Tech Island. Azimuth to the US Flag is about 220 degrees, then hang a left before going past the shelf at about 100 ft and you’ll find the flag, cross, and a gorilla statue

Hey guys, I’m heading to Tempe to visit my son during his spring break in a couple weeks. We are both advanced certified and looking to get in the water while we are hanging out together for a few days. Lake Pleasant sounds, pleasant, but is it? Where can we rent gear from, where’s the best place to dive there, water conditions & temps? Is it strictly shore diving? If so, what should we expect? Thanks in advance for the input!
ScubaGammy - 3/14/2017 11:22 AM
Check out El Mar in west Mesa. They have gear and are having an underwater egg hunt on Sun April 2 that is really fun and get to meet fellow divers plus food and prizes.

Thanks ScubaGammy. I’ve also talked to a few other shops as well at this point. Thanks to everyone else that sent me PMs about other shops in the area. Appreciate the help! Looking forward to doing some boat diving there soon!

It was great to have you out on the boat with us this past weekend! Glad to see you had an awesome time! As you were able to see firsthand, boat diving at the lake with us provides far more cool stuff to see than anywhere on the shore! Hope to see you again next year!

I am coming out during spring break 4/6/2017 - 4/16/2017 and would like to get a few dives in here. I’m staying in Phoenix close to SR51 & Camelback. I am contacting local shops for potential dive buddies during this time. I need to get wet and practice.
joe_bird - 3/11/2017 9:18 PM
That’s the end of the best time of year to dive the lake. Expect it to be cold water still, between 55-60, and depending on recent weather conditions and location vis may be 10-15 ft or 30-40 ft

We dive this often and perform deep dives 1-2 times a week. For recreational, it is great. youtube.com/watch?v=HMY8SfhrUkU&t=10s I recorded this a short time back. There are so many shops in the area, just check a few. I deal with a few of them and some are better than others in my opinion, but you know this i am sure lol. I will be more than glad to give you input, just message me. Some shops have a really bad reputation, really bad, they just dont know it.
akaoswald - 3/12/2017 12:55 PM
Most of the dive shops are good but there are definitely divers you should stay away from.
akaoswald - 3/12/2017 12:58 PM
LP Scuba and Saguaro Scuba are the two I frequent the most. There are a few dive shops that come and go. Local divers figure out which ones are good and the bad ones die off.

I went scuba diving here on 9/20/2014. Average viz: 5-10ft/2-3m. Water temp: 61-65°F/16-18°C.
Most of my dives I worked on building my buoyancy and navigation skills. Found a barricade as well as the dive table around 30 - 35Ft. Final dive I went down to 94Ft. Deepest dive as of yet for me to go on. Would have gone to 100 Ft. but visibility was getting bad and we didn’t have our lights on us at the time.

Nice dive. Found a bag. Set a hat on a Tree. Saw some bass and crappie. Need to remember to bring weights next time instead of using rocks!
