Lake Hartvikvannet Ju-52 is a shore accessible fresh water dive site, located in Narvik, Nordland County, Norway. The maximum depth is 26-30ft/8-9m. The average visibility is 26-30ft/8-9m.
The 2.3-square-kilometre lake is located about 4 kilometres east of the village of Bjerkvik
Another site list this as being in Troms but shows it on the map in Nordland
During WWII and the Battle of Norway this frozen lake was used by the Germans as an airfield, there are photos on the web of 3 engine Junker 52’s sitting on the ice. The wreck of a German fighter plane (?) in Lake Hartvikvannet is a Junker 52 that is fairly intact.
From ScubaDiving magazine; 11 Junker-52 planes made emergency landings on the ice on Hartvikvannet, just opposite Bjerkvik, on April 13, 1940. 10 of them went through the ice, and 3 of them are still in the water. This may explain the different locations listed 68.2741° ; 17.5062°
Some 40 km out of the town of Narvik in Norway there is a lake which the Nazis used as a landing strip in the wintertime. One of their planes, a Junkers Ju 52, now lies in the bottom of the lake. The most fun way to reach the wreck is by jumping into a crystal clear river leading to the lake, and drifting down.
