First ocean dive. After a weekend charter backed out, met up with Jason to do some shore diving in Venice looking for teeth and fossils. Visibility was ~8ft at best, little to no surf. I did find about a dozen small teeth, but no megs. The low visibility made this an excellent dive to practice my recent navigation cert.

6-13-2016 Venice Beach shore dive. Viz about 5ft. Temp 82. Max depth for my dive 18ft. Dive flag needed. I dove in shorts and t-shirt.

This is the "off season" (summer). Easy access. Parking spaces available. The walk from car to water is unobstructed. You could pull a loaded wagon from point to point. I used the north end of the parking lot.

About 200yds from shore is a line of concrete blocks in 15-20ft depth. A fair amount of growth. Plenty of small critters.

I didn’t find many teeth (1 decent one...by my standards. Small for the area). Maybe due to enjoying the scenery as much as poking around in the sand.

This was my first tooth dive. Next time I’ll spend more time digging, than expecting to see them on top of sand. Digging involves fanning your hand over a likely spot to push sand away. There is just enough current to clear the sediment from the immediate area.

Hello again Any, I meet you when you were gearing up and my daughter & I were coming back. Sounds like you had an overall good experience. Next time you are planning on coming to Venice, let me know and we can get some teeth together.

Will do Mike. Thanks for the info on where to go. I know I’ll be back. 5 hour drive and lodging. It won’t be a weekly trip. ☺

I went scuba diving here on 4/30/2016. Average viz: 21-25ft/6-8m. Water temp: 76-80°F/24-27°C.
Dove it twice today. First dive was with new wet suit, needed more weight. Jumped over to Florida West, saw Ken and grabbed 12 more pounds. Second dive went much better. Made it out to the artificial reef and meet a very large manatee, PEEK-A-BOO!!! On the way back in, found a bunch of shark teeth. For the first dive of the season, I am pleased.
It’s convenient that I live 5 minutes from here.

Visibility is not good, but it’s not about vis, it’s about sharks teeth, and there are plenty to be had.

Still pretty cloudy, but much calmer waters. Saw some teeth, found a partial big tooth and some cool shells. Spent an hour face down in the sand but a good time.
