May 30-31st 2009 at Dutch Springs Well, I made it up to Dutch Springs this weekend. We had a couple of Open Water students. I got there after the gates were open due to some traffic on 295 and my desire to stay in bed for just five more minutes…. I got there and went into to update my status to INSTRUCTOR. (YEAH) At first they couldn’t find the paperwork for my proof of insurance. So they gave me an Uninsured Instructor card, I walked outside and found Kevin. He said He had the paperwork. It was...

GypsyDiver - 5/17/2009 10:03 PM
Day 12 I woke up at 0530. I took a look at my slates. I headed to Winn Dixie to pickup some breakfast. They were closed. Dang the Bad Luck! No yogurt for Breakfast! So I headed over to Jules Undersea Lodge. This is the site for the Open water portion of the IE. I got there early so I got a premium parking spot. There are only 4or 5 after that you are parking on the grass. I met some nervous individuals who had failed part of the 5 Part Dive Theory Exam. We talked about Physics for a while. Some ...

Day 11 We arrived at the pool at 0730. We set up our geared up. When Gary, Our Evaluator, was ready we went into the pool. We did a skill circuit. I found it funny that they skill circuit we did was exactly what Georgia had us do yesterday. She must be psychic. LOL. We regrouped. We presented out Confined Water Presentations. I went last. I present an approach with a Quick Reverse. It went well. I scored in the twenty’s’ on my skill circuit and four point something. Once I heard that I passed I ...

Day 7 Well, we were back in the pool this morning. I presented surfacing the unresponsive diver. All victims made it to EMS control and survived. We got to see Georgia teach another class. It was great to see her in Action again after a couple of days off from teaching. ;) We went back to the classroom and received another block of instruction on the Master Scuba Diver program. This is a great program BTW! After lunch, we went out on the boat. We went to French Reef. We did more open water evals...

GypsyDiver - 5/11/2009 9:01 PM
DAY 6 Today we started in the pool. We had to the 800 swim with Mask, Fins, and Snorkel. All I can say is I paced myself. Slow and steady wins the race. OH wait no race. We each had confined water presentations. I had the air depletion exercise. Georgia had the Galileo computer. I watch the screen and watch the bubbles stop when I shut off the tank. There was nothing on the screen changing from what I could see from where I was. She grabbed my grab my Octo. It was really bizarre. I made the corr...

Day 3 We started at 8 am with a pool session. We finished up our skills. We then did our first Confined Water presentations. It was interesting. I learned alot about control and to not look for perfection. I kept thinking the role players were screwing with me. We got a Rescue demo and then it was our turn. We each played the victim and rescuer. It was fun. We finished up and went to the classroom. One class on Discover Scuba and Snorkeling and then lunch. After lunch, we did our 1st Knowledge D...

Well, I woke up early getting ready for our first pool session. I walk out to the truck. I go to throw my rucksack into the truck. I look at the backseat it looks a little empty. I look in the front seat and stuff is thrown all over the place. I walk around to the passenger side and see paperwork from the glove box. I see my Master Scuba Diver bag has been dumped out. OMG!!!!!!!! I have been robbed. They got my Regulator Set, My EFR Instructor Crew Pack, My Dive Master Crew pack, My Rescue Diver...
Ocean Divers IDC Day 1 Ocean Divers IDC Day 1
GypsyDiver - 5/06/2009 10:41 PM
Well, the day started off early enough. It was looking like it was going to be like any other school, Death by Powerpoint. If it wasn’t for Georgia Hausserman and her sense of humor and vast knowledge, I would have been sticking pencils in my eyes by noon. It was enlightening and educational. Georgia stressed that the IDC was to prepare the student to be an Instructor, not to pass the IE. I was really glad to hear that. I did adjust the schedule by changing the heading to the IDC Etch-a-sketch. ...

GypsyDiver - 5/05/2009 8:30 PM
Happy Cinco De Mayo. We started early this morning with the Dive theory prep. We went over Physics and then took a Pre test. It really help to show are weak areas. I know nothing about Altitude diving. Georgia was great. I plan on stealing a few of her teaching techniques. It really helped. The test just reinforced the need to read the question. We finished before lunch. We got to go diving to conduct a Practical Exercise of Dive Theory. We dove the Hole in the Wall at Molasses Reef and Snapper ...

GypsyDiver - 5/04/2009 3:41 PM
I left Jersey on May 2 and drove to Charleston, SC. I hung out with a friend from High School. We went to a House party. Boy have things changed since HS. We drank wine and made dinner, instead of drinking Beer and eating Chips. I crashed on the couch. May 3 I decided not to watch an ACLU briefing and fled to Florida. I flew through Savannah (I love that town). I decided not to go to Ginnie Springs since I would get there late. It would be a waste of 50 bucks to only get one dive in before they ...
Dutch Springs Opening Day dive
GypsyDiver - 4/04/2009 5:15 PM
I made it up to Dutch Springs this morning with Clay and Steve. The wind was blowing heavily. We got in the water it was about 48 degrees. We made our way out toward the platforms. I start to descend and went to put air in my drysuit. Nothing. It felt for my hose. Not connected. I got it on in spite of my big blue gloves. That was fun. I added some air and descended to the platform. I look around for steve. He is doing alright. I look for Clay. He is coming toward me. I see him looking like he h...

I was told to check out the website, www.divepoll.com . It’s a website that talks about cdnn.info and how the articles on that site are either stolen or not trustworthy. I know that has been a situation we have dealt with on this site in the past. Has anyone else been to the site? What do you think about the site? Is the information valid? More importantly what do you think about it? As always I love to hear the feedback from this site’s membership. I look forward to hearing your views....
