Shark Facts
mukashi - 8/27/2008 7:47 PM
In the U.S., your chances of getting killed by lightning are 30 times greater than dying of a shark attack. Bees , wasps, and snakes kill more people each year than sharks. Drowning, heart attacks, beach accidents resulting in spinal injury, sunburn, cuts from stepping on sea shells, dehydration, jellyfish stings, and traffic accidents going to or from the beach are all far more common than shark attacks. In 1996 in the U.S. there were 18 reported injuries and deaths from shark attacks, but 198,...

I went on this dive trip with Aquatic Safaris. It was part of my Advanced Scuba training. Andre is my dive instructor and as usual he did a great job, as did Captain Greg!! My computer registered 101 feet as my maximum depth. I was diving with Nitrox, and I was able to get about 26 minutes on each of my 2 dives. I found several nice shark tooth fossils on my first dive, but it was on my second dive that I found the large tooth in the picture. It cleaned up beautifully and measured in at 6-1/8". ...
Night Diving!!
mukashi - 6/20/2008 9:24 AM
I am currently going through the PADI Advanced Diver Certification course. I am doing this training through Aquatic Safaris and they have been great. Andre Nel is my instructor and he is excellent. Anyone wanting to get training there, I highly recommend Andre. He is an excellent instructor who makes learning very fun, but is very thorough and professional. As part of my PADI Advanced Diver Certification course I did the night dive last night. I must admit that prior to this dive I was very appr...
Lake Rawlings 09.15.2007 Lake Rawlings 09.15.2007
mukashi - 9/15/2007 6:50 PM
Today a dive buddy of mine and I went to Lake Rawlings Virginia. I got to meet Dalelynn and she is quite a nice lady. She encouraged us to participate in the Project Aware cleanup event that was scheduled for today. I am glad that she did. It was fun and we were able to remove some trash for the quarry bottom. It made me feel like we left the dive site better than it was when we got there. That’s always a good thing. We made a couple of good dives and had a great time. The visibility was good an...
Fantasy Lake Scuba Park 09.01.2007 Fantasy Lake Scuba Park 09.01.2007
mukashi - 9/02/2007 2:02 PM
On this day, a group of friends and I went to the Fantasy Lake Scuba Park in Rollsville, NC. The weather was perfect with a pleasant breeze to enjoy while under the canopy or otherwise while in the shade. We were a little disappointed to find that the warm temperatures had increased the algae growth. Thus the water was not quite as good as it was when I was last there on Memorial Day. Never the less, we made numerous fun dives. We even went to the area of the quarry where the thermo cline was se...
Lake Rawlings - 08.11.2007 Lake Rawlings - 08.11.2007
mukashi - 8/12/2007 10:22 PM
Upon arriving at Lake Rawlings, I was directed to check in at the dive shop. There were several divers checking in as well. There was a nice family checking in, in front of me. My attention was drawn to them because they appeared to be having a problem with the guy behind the counter. When it was our turn he was equally as rude to us. I considered just leaving, but we had driven a couple of hundred miles to get there. I decided instead to focus my attention on getting my head wet, which I did. O...
Rosin Wreck and Puffer Ledge 07.28.2007 Rosin Wreck and Puffer Ledge 07.28.2007
mukashi - 7/29/2007 12:00 AM
07-28-2007 On this day we made 2 deep dives. The first was at the Rosin Wreck. The water was a beautiful crystal blue and the visibility was excellent. The depth was 115 feet. The bait fish were very abundant and flowed over and around the hull of the wreck. We saw 2 Sand Tiger Sharks that swam right next to us. Excellent dive! The second dive was on a ledge that we have dubbed "Puffer Ledge". The water here was also a beautiful crystal blue and the visibility was excellent. The depth was 108 fe...
Shark Tooth Ledge and Hyde Dive 06.16.2007
mukashi - 6/18/2007 12:00 AM
On 06.16.2007 I went on a dive trip with Cape Fear Divers to Shark Tooth Ledge and the Hyde shipwreck. I went with several of my dive buddies and numerous others. The boat was a 50` hawksbill and accommodated 19 divers with no problem. The crew was pleasant and upbeat and they made the trip quite enjoyable. The first 2 dives were at Shark Tooth Ledge. The water was deep crystal blue and the visibility was between 60 and 80 feet. The maximum depth was 105 feet. Several of the divers found megalod...
Liberty Ship Dive
mukashi - 6/09/2007 12:00 AM
On 06/09/2007 I went with some friends to dive the Liberty Ship wreck. The water was great. We caught it at low tide and it was fairly flat. We had about 15 feet of visibility. We swam the length of the ship and went through the hull in a couple of places. We saw numerous fish and a 7 foot shark that swam by on the outside of the hull while we were on the inside of the hull. Even though I would have preferred more visibility, it was still a good dive. Wreck dives are my absolute favorite type of...
Fantasy Lake Scuba Park Fantasy Lake Scuba Park
mukashi - 5/31/2007 12:00 AM
On Memorial Day, some of my dive buddies and I went to the Fantasy Lake Scuba Park in Rollsville, NC. It was a perfect day and the diving was great. The big variance in water temperature kept our masks foggy eventhough we used Sea Gold. There was one place in the deeper section that the temperature dropped so much that it was quite unbearable in a 3mm suit. All in all, I would recommend the dive site as a freshwater alternative dive. I would go there again. Here is their link: http://www.fantasy...
Deep Down in NC
mukashi - 5/08/2007 12:00 AM
On April 22nd several dive buddies of mine and I went 47 miles off the Carolina Beach coast. We dove in 110 feet of water. The visibility was strange. For the first 15 feet it was crystal clear, then from there on down the visibility was limited to only about 10 feet. As soon as I got on the bottom, I was met by a very large Lionfish. I left him alone and he left me alone. I did get some interesting video of him though. This was the deepest that I have been so far. It was great, but humbling. I ...

You can also go here: http://www.ncdiveplate.com/ It is a really cool plate, so spread the word. I would like to know if any other states have a similar plate. If you know of one, drop me a line! Have a great day!! William...
Devil`s Den and Blue Grotto Dive
mukashi - 2/25/2007 12:00 AM
I recently went to Williston Florida with 3 friends of mine on a dive trip. We dove the Blue Grotto and the Devil`s Den. They were both fun dives and easy. We dove the Blue Grotto was the deeper of the 2 dives at 90 feet in the morning. The visibility was extremely clear. The facility was set up nice and was quite convenient. After lunch we dove the Devil’s Den. It too was very well set up and the people there were polite and helpful. The Devil’s Den was probably my favorite of the two. Crystal ...
