AOW Certification
Elonna - 10/05/2010 3:07 PM
So I passed my AOW cert dives this past weekend at Gilboa, yay me! I did dive a few more quarries this summer and it is getting better for me, still not sure I’m a cold water diver and I’m not much on low vis, but I think with more experience I will be more comfortable with it...hopefully. Anyway, those were my last dives for this year. Time to pack the gear away until a possible Ginnie Springs trip in February....
My First Quarry Dive
Elonna - 7/19/2010 1:03 PM
Well, I went on my first quarry dive on Saturday. It was also my first low vis dive (~7 ft.). Overall the dive was not very good...my dive buddies were awesome (thanks Jeff and Mark V), but I just had too much going on at once. I dove with my own gear which is all new to me, so had to adjust for that. After fiddling with weight and buoyancy, I had to call the first dive after about 5 minutes because I was sucking more water than I was air. After a surface interval and fiddling with my regulator ...
Cancun

We have our trip scheduled for the first week of June to Cancun. My son and I are going to snorkel with the whale sharks. That should be really neat. They are awesome looking creatures. And I am squeezing in a day of reef diving as well. Really looking forward to it...11 days and counting....
Gearing up for this season :o)

I know I had plans to do a few dives last fall after receiving my certification in August, but my mother passed away unexpectedly in September and needless to say...I didn’t do any diving. Didn’t even think about diving. I have recently become involved with a local dive group and they are a great bunch :o) We had a pool party in March and I got to try out my new wetsuit...5/4 mil and I was still chilly if I wasn’t moving...do they make a 20mil?? lol Guess I better look into dry suit diving...I’l...
OW Cert Dives, Day 2
Elonna - 8/12/2009 12:28 PM
Well, I am officially certified, woohoo! Who wants to go diving with me?? Second day was good. I finished my skills with no major issues. We did 6 dives total between the two days and once I got past being nervous, everything was great. Saw a lot of sheepshead and grouper. And we found the octopus on my last dive. Mark (my instructor) had been looking for her but she had moved on him. That was really exciting. She was up under a rock so only got to see about half of her, but awesome just the sam...
OW Cert Dives, Day 1
Elonna - 8/11/2009 12:26 PM
Made it through my first day doing three dives yesterday. We got quite a few of the skills out of the way, but will be finishing up today. I’m not sure I’m going to be into the shore diving that much. It’s a lot more physical labor than boat diving. I was exhausted with the four trips back and forth to the car just carrying gear and tanks to beach. Makes it less fun if you’re already tired and frustrated before you even get into the water lol. Visibility wasn’t great, but I did get to see quite ...

I’m heading out for my first day of OW certification dives. Wish me luck :o) Not sure I’ll have internet access later, but will give an update on how my dives went when I can....
