Growning My Own Little Divebuddy

I’ll never forget July 30-31 as I watched my 12 year old grandson, Logan, complete his certification dives at Gilboa. Don’t know when I’ve ever been more proud of him. Logan has been pestering me for a few years wanting to become a scuba diver. He has always wanted to be a Navy Seal and said he had to get started on his scuba diving. Now, he says he is one step closer to becoming a Navy Seal. It was very difficult for me to give in to his desire to dive. It’s a big responsibility and I wasn’t sure he was responsible enough yet, or that I was ready yet to let him do it. But he proved me wrong. Logan has always been a little tadpole in the water. I always use to tease him about being born with gills. Logan did great in his classes and as far as I’m concern he did fantastic with his certification dives. Most of us will struggle to make sure all our gear fits just right, but Logan didn’t care.. he just wanted to dive. Logan wore a wetsuit and BC that was a little too big for him. His hair kept flooding his mask at times... but he never gave up. He had no problems clearing his mask... no problems with buoyancy and had no fear of the water. He totally ate it up... It was very exciting to watch and share the experience with him. I also got to share my 100th dive with him that day. I recall trying to spend allot of time trying to teach him to take care of his gear, but at some point I just gave up and decided to just let it be and enjoy the moment. We will deal with that later. The other day his mother told him about the Navy Seals that were killed. Logan stated that they died serving their country and that he still wanted to become a Navy Seal. I have no doubts that someday Logan will become a Navy Seal and I pray that the Lord keeps him safe, but until then... I have myself a new little dive buddy... :)

A special thanks to The Scuba Shack of Florence Ky for providing the training and to all the instructors and divecons that day. You help create some very special memories for us that day and I can’t wait until I get to dive with Logan again.

Outstanding. In time navigation and dark water diving skills may help build comfort in less than the best of conditions. He’ll do great and there is always several changes of path between 12 and 20. Wish I would have started diving at 12. Wow. Grandpa there by your side and having a blast. Be safe

Wish Logan "good luck" from Great at DiveBuddy on becoming a Navy Seal. He’s head in the right direction if he’s already learning to dive.

Maria, Congradulations to both you and Logan. Make sure he enjoys these early years of diving, they’ll go fast.
