When I first got into diving I had thoughts of warm tropical beaches and sunsets with pina coldas. Now I find myself craving water of any kind. I am convinced if I could get a decent surface interval I would diving rain puddles. This past weekend was an example of my reality vs what I thought it was going to be. The water was 61 degrees, how cold is this you ask.... ASS COLD. When you can`t feel you ass the water is ass cold. I was in a 7mm farmer john so while my core wasn`t too cold and I did have some 5mm booties on my face was another story. When was the last time you stuck your warm face into some ass cold water. Trust me it wakes you up. Here I was on a sunday morning at 8am getting into some ass cold water thinking.... good thing I skipped the coffee or I`d pee myself. The getting in part isn`t hard its when you remove you mask for the first time and get that splash of water that you realize you are wide awake now. The truth is I love it.... and even though I tease and rant about the ass cold water. Gary and I are diving it again in 14 days! I will have a thermos of coffee waiting for me though lol. Thanks to everyone who made my weekend of ass cold water so much fun and I can`t wait to dive with all again soon, especially my dive buddies.... Superman Brandon and Scuba Burke!!

Well what can I say about "ass cold water". Absolutely nothing at all!! All my diving is in Hawaii with 77 degree winter waters, and 80+ degree waters in summer... If you want to feel your ass again, come dive with me and my Buds on Oahu. We dive every weekend (about 6-8 dives). Shore dives are just as good as Boat dives (maybe a short surface swim) but that beats 40-140 bucks for a boat ride any day. So do your ass a favor and bring "her" feeling back. Scuba Mike

hahahahaha I love the term ass cold. Think I`m going to have to incorporate that into my diving venacular.

Being in the midwest I don`t have much of the tropical warm regions to partake of without significant travel. So I dive fresh water lakes quite a bit.

Water temps in the 40`s or 50`s is very common below 50 feet in these lakes. And my primary divebuddy and I tend to like deep diving on a regular basis. So we are down in 75-130 foot water quite often, and it`s definitely ass cold down there.

I`m contemplating getting a dry suit, as I was very comfortable in the DUI TLS-350 at those temps. Great comment bro... stay wet and stay safe.

Yep, I know what you mean. I have been diving for a while. Admittadly most of my diving has been "Tropical". But hey, when all ya have is the local quarry or cold Northern waters, then ya just gotta go for it. I was diving last weekend and chose to dive "wet" (normally I dive drysuit. The surface temp was 74deg. but down at 35 feet it was a "refreshing" 42deg. Wow, what a wakeup call....
