On my way to BONAIRE

Well, I’ve marked my calender. This is my first blog! I thought I’d memorialize the trials and tribulations of a single diver researching, planning for, and finally realizing a dive trip to a destination using as a key tool in the process. I joined last May for just such a purpose. Hopefully, I have not already jinxed my trip with too much anticipation of a successful trip. And now I’m headed to Bonaire, Netherland Antilles!

Let me back up just a bit and provide a little background. Please see my profile as "Mouthbreather" for basic personal information about me and my previous experience. I might add that this is my second trip as a single diver using The first was a great adventure with "Scout" to Providencia Island, Colombia; aka Old Providence Island, in the end of May 2008. Please see blogs authored by Scout and "tadeotadeo" and photos in my profile regarding that trip.

Being a single guy with a modest amount of foreign and domestic travel experience, I find trips like this almost as much fun to plan and anticipate as they are to actualize. I always enjoy the difference and surpise in what I anticipate with what my actual trip experience becomes. I have organized or helped organize fairly complex trips with friends in the past which have taken me to the Channel Islands, California on my own yacht as well as to the British Virgin Islands in which with friends we bareboat chartered a yacht to tour and dive the BVI’s on our own.

Well, this trip to Bonaire is going to be certainly less complicated if for no other reason I’ll be shore diving. I see shore diving Bonaire as a great way to enjoy the flexibility in what we dive day to day and how itensive of a trip I (we) want to have without having to abide by a boat operators schedule or having to manage a boat myself, which is a lot of work.

I think that I only just mentally comitted myself to this trip about seven days ago. Doing so allowed me to go full speed ahead in making plans and reservations as well as coordinate my absence from work. That being said, I’ll have to, in future chapters/blogs/whatever they’re called-to record a little history of what the process has been up to today. I apologize in advance if what you read is a little dry. This being my first blog I’m going to stick to what I know and what I know how to do and then maybe let the creative juices flow a little more when I become more comfortable in what I regurgitate here. I have a significant experience in writing factual, detailed reports so . . . I guess you don’t have to read this so I won’t apologize too much for boring you.
