I’m going to be in New Zealand from August 21st until September 14th (travelling there from Vancouver, Canada), and am hoping to find some dive buddies. I will definitely be in Wellington, the Fjordland, and Auckland, but am flexible if somebody wants to visit other places. I am a research diver - study abalone, and have 300+ dives. If an output file is available, what format is it in and can you reply with a sample of how the information looks inside the file or send me a direct message with a copy of the file contents? Basically what I’m curious about isnt exactly scuba diving as a whole, however, it is involved. You see, I’m 25 years old now and since as long as I can remember I’ve always wanted to live in the caribbean and own my own boating/scuba company, so I can take vacationers out for the day. The catch is, I have 0 boating experience. Its ust something I didnt really grow up with, though I’ve always had the passion for it. In order to run any sort of boating busniess, you must need to Captians License which is extremely difficult to get. For years I’ve tried to land a job on a boat or something along those lines, which would give me some knowledge and help get my foot in the door but nobody is willing to hire someone without any experience. I’m not big into the military route (navy, coast gaurd, etc.) So my question is this... I know that I’m starting out a little late at the age of 25 and all, but... does anyone have any information on how I can get things started for myself to achieve a captians licenses or know of any boating position I might be able to get my hands on? Honestly.... any information whatsoever would be a huge help and greatly appreciated. Please, understand.. it’s my dream and I need all the help and information I can get, as I’m more or less a baby when it comes to my knowledge on the matter. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thank you for your time, if you’ve read all of this and I’ll keep my fingers crossed for some positive responses. - Loren...

Cool DiveBuddy Dive Map Feature using Google Maps

I bet you didn’t know you could do this: http://maps.google.com/maps?q=http://www.divebuddy.com/kml_divemap.aspx?MemID=1 I’m going to add a link to each member’s profile that is showing a dive map so you can open your divesites like this, with Google Maps. After a giant stride off the back of the boat I was drawn to the boat by the current and the platform was just coming down from a rather large swell. Had I been a foot or two closer the platform would have come right down on my head. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to avoid this in the future? What wave heights would normally preclude someone from diving off a boat? On a side note the entire boat decided to skip the second dive as the conditions continued to worsen. Thanks in advance. ...

Gear For Sale

Need to sell my gear since my wife lost her job last week. I would like to go diving more but have a hard time finding local divers. I know I should join the local dive club, but most of them hold meetings in the evenings, I work evenings, so i have the mornings free to go diving. I would like to try diving the CT. river. I am fairly new a diving and only have about ten dives under my belt. If interested give me a shout....

St Maarten

I bought a timeshare in St Maarten. 1 or 2 bedroom and want to go. We booked a dive in Cancun Mexico 7/17/10. Flew in from Indiana, brought our gear with us, $. Paid up ready to do a boat dive with (blank). Filled out the dive release. I put down that I take blood presure meds and that my presure is great, My doctor is ok with me diving. They REFUSED to take us out! Now totally BUMMED!!!!!!!!!! We never read anything about anyone getting refused for this and we get alot of mags, books, we are members of DAN and understand there point of view on BP. We felt very informed or so we thought. Do I have to Lie on these dive release forms to do a dive? I am not comfortable with lieing, But I love diving!...
