I was drawn to diving and the sea at the age of five. The first time I watched an episode of Sea Hunt I found my passion, and after 10 years of hounding my parents, I was certified as an Open Water Diver at the age of 15. In the early years of my diving career I dove the Central California coast between Ventura and Morro Bay, the Northern Channel Islands, and the oil rigs off Santa Barbara (there weren’t any restrictions on diving the rigs in those days). In the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s I dove the Philippine Islands, the island of Kauai, and the coastal waters between Northern California between Carmel and Fort Bragg. For the past 12 years I’ve been diving the waters off San Diego, the Southern Channel Islands, Hawaii, Florida Keys and throughout the Caribbean Sea.
Today I teach independently through Scyllis Diving; fill in as an instructor at various shops around San Diego; plan dive trips and accompanies many of my clients to exotic dive locations as their personal instructor, safety diver and dive buddy; and work as a Dive Master aboard the San Diego-based Horizon, a live aboard dive boat, as well as several other local dive boats.
To date I’ve logged over 5000 dives; I’m a PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer, a Dive Master, a Master Scuba Diver, and I hold PADI Specialty Instructor Certifications in Wreck Diving, Deep Diving, Night Diving, Boat Diving, Dry Suit Diving, Peak Performance Buoyancy, Enriched Air Nitrox Diving, Equipment Specialist, Search and Recovery, Underwater Navigation, and numerous other PADI Specialties.
