Hello Friends,
I am going to be traveling in the next few weeks to the Grayton Beach area of the panhandle of Florida. Does anyone have any info about "must do" dive sites in the area? (Other than the obvious USS ORINSKY). Is there shore diving near by?
How are the freshwater lakes in the park?
Also, what will the temp of the Gulf water be this time of year? I am just trying to figure out which wet suit to pack. I am a Great Lakes diver so the cold water doesn’t scare me! 50 degrees is NOT cold! lol
Any info will be much appreciated thanks!

Try the jetties at Panama City and Destin for shore diving and Vortex Springs for fresh water diving. If you dive the jetties, make sure it is high tide and watch the curents.

This time of year the water temp is about 60. I feel okay in a 7mil and a beanie. A hood would probably feel good but I hate them and go without. If you wear a wetsuit, it’s the air temp that will get you.

Morrison Springs also just opened on the 26th of Feb. It is a nice place. I know Emerald Coast Scuba in Destin won’t be running their boat until the first of April. There is a shop in Pensacola that runs to the Big-O. The shop is called MBT. There is also a private charter that I use there called Due South Charters. His email address is dalton [ at ] duesouthcharters.net. Email him if you want to set up a trip. He runs some inshore trips as well. Tell him Shrek sent ya.

Thanks again everyone that gave some info about my trip to northern Florida. I just got home today, did Vortex Springs and Morrison Springs and both were excellent!
Thanks again!
