Uwatec bottom timer, wrist mounted, about $225. Sealed lifetime battery, last for years, gives plenty of warning when time to replace (first one went 2 years/ 100 hrs in waning mode without losing any dive date).
Only drawback, are no clock (pure timer), not lighted or downloadable, all non-issues for me.
Requires paying attention to your dive and knowledge of tables, but works well for multi-level, multi-dive, multi-gas, basically as well as the ultimate dive computer located between your ears.
On my second, have used exclusivly since 2000, hundreds of hours underwater.

Not "mainstream" in that I do not use a computer, and do firmly believe in using, not depending on, a dive computer, if you do get one.
Better places to spend dive funds IMHO.

I have heard many mixed reviews of the wireless computers. I have a Suunto Cobra air integrated computer with compass mount. Takes a bit to learn it but once you do I think it’s great. You cab always get a wrist Zoop as a backup. The interfaces are pretty much the same.

I have a Suunto Vyper Air Novo wrist computer. It also has the integrated digital compass. I really like the air integration as I can see all the info I need with just a quick glance at my wrist. I do carry a spg on a console for back-up but rarely use it.

Perdix AI - easy to read - Rec Mode for early diving and as you progress - Tech Mode as needed with functionality that will last you a lifetime. Customer service that is above every other competitor (I have not needed it - just giving you reviews from others).
I learned to dive tables then went to Oceanic which I like but now that I am leaning tech - the Perdiix can essentially match any algorithm you want to match or you dive it with your settings Gradient Factors and leave when you or your buddy decide.
Hands down a very good computer - I am not suggesting anyone with a different computer to trade up. Others are good but if you have not bought one - this is the one to buy...

Thank you Tom and Carl for the great info. At this point I have no plans to give up on the air integrated computer I have. I would like to add a wrist type as another primary, so to speak. Something with a large display that’s easy to see with great functions.

I’d go with the perdix not wireless (or if you do, dive a spg as well as wireless cannot be depended on). I have tons of dives on them and they work flawlessly, user changeable AA batteries easy to read in any condition, and easy to use/scroll through. And will grow with your diving.
I’ve had computers die in the middle of dives, lock me out for deco obligations they think are needed all of which ruin your diving, shearwater allows you to dive as you do and compensates for your profile...
Whatever your choice is safe diving.....

Tom that’s funny. I may need a Braille on soon as well lol...I wear contacts when I dive and my left eye has a higher power so that I can see up close and far away. Before that I had those stick on magifiers stuck on the bottom of my mask. I spent more time trying to see what my computer readings were than what I was seeing on the dive.

Dont use air integrated myself. Shearwater predator with a Nitek Q backup. Both will do multi gas w/ GF to adjust your deco algorithm

I have the same problem. Went to the dive shop and said I need a big display with backlight. Ended up with an Oceanic Pro Plus 3 air intergrated. Love it.

Perdix AI.
Good unit, easy to use. Common sense layout of information. I use it in tech mode, not rec mode. Tech mode gives more room for a few extra features.
I still have a SPG clipped to my waist belt. I remove it for local stuff.

I have the Suunto D4i. It is a very nice wrist computer. I was lucky enough to get it for half price as it was a dive shop display model. The functions are great and it is wireless air integration capable but I find that the display is just too small when diving. Instead of paying $400 for the air piece I went with the Oceanic Proplus3 with the compass. Nice big display and air info direct from the regulator. I do wear my Suunto as a back-up.

Try Liquivision Lynx. Nice OLED display and fairly inexpensive for a wireless air integrated wrist unit.

I know this is a relatively old post, but the Scubapro G2 is an awesome dive computer. It grows with you, so if you get into tech or specialty diving it’s adaptable. You can add pics or maps. I have the wrist mount, but they also just came out with a console version as well.

I just took my own advice and bought a Liquivision Lynx used off eBay for $150 (I think new ones are $699 to $999) to replace my failed Liquivision Xen bottom timer (pressure sensor went haywire and now reads 20 - 25 feet when at the surface). I already had all the accessories from the Xen (batteries, charger, PC link, etc.) so this was a great deal for me. I have not acquired a transmitter to go with this yet, but it will support up to 3 for use by me and up to 7 more for monitoring buddies’ gas. I will probably not buy any transmitters or use the AI features, since I dive sidemount and mixed gas diving which would require me to have 3 transmitters for full integration on all my tanks on a given dive. At $350 per transmitter, I don’t think this is worth it to me. Also, since the Lynx only does air and Nitrox, I will use my 2 Nitek Qs for trimix diving and only use the Lynx for recreational dives (as primary, with my trusty Nitek Duo as backup). I do think the Lynx may be a good choice for the OW / AOW diver with just a single tank or manifolded doubles, which would require only buying 1 transmitter.
