What is the best time of the year to wreck dive off the NC coast? I’ve heard many tales of traveling there and cancelled dives due to weather.

Summer into fall has the best diving when the Gulf Stream is also closer to shore but that’s also hurricane season and it didn’t become the "Graveyard of the Atlantic" by having nice weather :(

I have been blown out of a few dives there but never a whole trip. If it’s bad offshore then they dive shallow, once we had a wild ride thru a thunderstorm to dive offshore. One day the morning was rough so we toured an old fort and went out in the afternoon and one day it actually looked like a pond :)

I’ve had several trips and great dives in NC, mosts out of Beaufort, Moredhead City, Topsail Island....Great amount of wrecks & beautiful underwater structure of ancient shorelines ( offering some terrific hunting for lobsters and searfishing!)...I’ve enjoyed many great dives. Usually involves some long boat rides, but worth it!...also have been blown out but you need to trust all those experienced captains and operators who know those waters well...bottom line in my opinion, NC diving should be on every diver’s bucket list.

I’m a DM and crewman on the Outrageous V out of Discovery Diving here in Beaufort, NC. While the diving is great here through the whole summer, my personal favorite months are April and October. Capt Terry has been running that boat for over 35 years and will make sure you get a great trip. Of course we get blown out like everybody else, but trust me, nobody wants to get out more than us! Feel free to PM me and I can give you more information if you want. I’m still active duty Marine Corps and I’ll be in the field all next week so if replies are a little slow, that’s why.
