Any more recent Blackbeard live-aboard experiences??

Hi all. New to the site and dying for a dive trip with limited funds and maximum, repeat maximum, diving. Yup, I’m a girl who loves pink but I’m all good with "roughing it"/camping and considering the Blackbeard liveaboard. Read all the previous posts but not too much written recently. Any experiences to share? Thought? Suggestions?

I am also currently in search of a dive buddy or group that are considering this trip and looking for another diver. I have 150+ dives so not a total newbie but also really wanting to learn more and definitely work on navigation so I’d love to get paired up with a buddy who likes to teach and share their experiences. I tend to be an "ohhh...that’s so cool" all-in visual diver and, although that’s been fine in the past with my much more experienced dive buddies, it’s time for me to step up and get serious about gaining my own skills. That being said, do you, who have done the trip, or been underwater more than me, think I should do the AOW (and nitrox) training before I go? Any thoughts, ideas and suggestions are welcome!

Hey Jennifer,

If you’re good with roughing it...you’ll do it’s fine on Blackbeards. I dove with them last January and it was really fun, but it’s absolutely a no frill adventure with little privacy so if you’re expecting more you might be disappointed. But as you know it’s a terrible value for the money and if you like camping, you’ll have a blast. The crew is great, diving is also great. The food is good and plentyful. You’ll make a tone of new friends, and if you can’t find a dive buddy to go, you’ll find one one Blackbeard’s. Lots of fun after the diving is done as well. A serve yourself beer tap,a no wine stashed throughout the ship makes for fun evenings! Just go...you’ll love it.

Jennifer,
Agree with Underwaterjohn, Blackbeards is a blast to enjoy and good diving, can be a bit crowded at times and it is short on privacy long on making new friends, been on 3 trips with them and have had a blast each time. You also may checkout singledivers.com, I’m doing my first trip with them and will let you know how it goes if you interested. If you need a buddy and schedules workout I’d be happy to dive with you anytime.

I’ve done about ten trips with SingleDivers.com, always fun but just remember that the trip was planned by a blond

I agree with the singledivers.com comment. The women who runs this is completely unorganized. My first and last trip with her was to Palau. At the end of the trip people were settling accounts with her with notes written on restaurant napkins. The diving was great though.!

Jennifer,
Back from my Bonaire trip with SingleDivers.com, had a blast, trip was well organized, accommodations very nice, no complaints, Kamala did a great job in bringing group together and left with a bunch of new friends. I’m going to do a trip with SD again.
