Carnival cruise/ Cozumel

I’m looking at escaping the harsh midwest winter and taking a Carnival cruise (I know, I know) out of NOLa this Feb. I’ve never done a cruise or dived with a charter before.

It appears that they offer a 2 tank dive for certified divers down in Cozumel. Has anybody done this with Carnival (or any other cruise line)? I have a hard time getting my ears to equalize 40’ is about as deep as I’ve been, are the dive’s enjoyable down there that shallow??? or should I just swim with the dolphins with my girlfriend instead?

Any and all input is appreciated, thanks,

Scott

Try cozumel-diving.net/luis/ for more of a personalized trip. Cost of transportation in 2013 was $8 each way. By getting with 3 other divers the cost of dive with nitrox was same as dive with air from ship. Easy together taxi at cruise terminal and Luis will call for taxi for you when you get back in. I went with Luis and 3.other advanced divers in last October, depths of 115’ on the wall with monster lobsters, turtles, rays, just about everything. Don’t forget that port arrival/departure times are based on ship time which doesn’t change from you port of origin time, Cozumel is on Central Time.

A good shallow shore dive is at Chakanaub. They also have wimming with Dolphins, for your girlfriend. It’s a $10 taxi ride, plus there is the park admission and equipment/tank rentals. Beautiful dive down to about 45 feet max.

I have also used Pepe’s Scuba at the Coral Princess hotel. You still have to take a Taxi to the hotel, but they will drop you off at a pier by the cruise ship terminal. Fast, small boats. Perssonalized service. I would definately recommend. They always responded to e-mails within 24 hours while working out the details.

I appreciate everybody getting back to me so promptly, I’ll follow some leads here & do a lot more research and anticipate doing a really great dive or two.
Thanks
