My fav op is Counch Republic right there in Islamorada http://www.conchrepublicdivers.com/
For gear Divers Direct has a huge shop in Key Largo, I think it was a supermarket before to give you an idea of the size.
For food we like Hobo’s as you are coming into KL, liked the old Hobo’s atmosphere better but the fish is still just as good.
For killing time there is a bird rehab center on the bay side of A1A at the south end of KL just before you get to Islamorada, small sign so you’ll probably miss it the first time.
If your dive gets blown out or you just want to test new gear or skills go to Emerald Lagoon in KL, it’s a shore dive but there is an entry fee however they rent tanks so no hauling them back to the dive shop

I would contact my friend RoyC on here. He lives in Key Largo and is always looking for people to dive with. For gear I would recommend SCUBA Outlet on the north end of Key Largo. Ask for Warren and tell him Danny and Roy sent you. You will not beat his prices. If you need any more information please feel free to PM me. Have fun!

For gear, im looking to rent. Not sure if that was clear. I had planned to take some stuff but figured it would cost too much to fly with all of it.

Scuba Outlet rents gear as well. I was just down there a couple of weeks ago and I brought my entire kit to include BC, reg, mask, fins, snorkel, 3 mil, boots, gloves, 12 pounds of soft weight, and GoPro camera and the bag came in at 48 pounds. But I’m active duty military so they never give me grief about bags.

I hope you will be at the Cheeca Lodge. It is beautiful. My wife and I honeymooned there in 2011. Just bring mask, snorkle and fins with you and rent whatever you need. I agree with conch republic. Try to get down to Key West if you have never been there. It a fun time and some good food. Jimmy Buffets, Irish Kevins... have fun.
