Anyone interested in going to the Texas Flower Gardens sometime in March, April, or May? Never been, looking to check it out. - Kevin

I am interested in diving the Flower Gardens, have heard and read about them, but never dove them. It is an overnight trip and the living arrangements are set up like dorms onboard. Seas can be very rough at times. May have a dive buddy here that is interested also--we have discussed it several times. Late May would be the best time for me.

I would be interested in going to the Flower Garden Banks if you can get things put together. Here is a link to the Fling`s schedual. http://www.gulf-diving.com/fling_schedule2008.htm Jay

Sounds as though May is working out to be the best month so far, and I`m going to find out some more info from the Fling. Good to know of some folks interested! I`ll re-post with some more specific dates once I do the homework. Cheers, Kevin

OK here is what I found out today.

The three shops that have the Fling chartered for
Memorial Day weekend (Sorry I said Labor Day in
yesterdays message) are:

Houston Scuba Academy
12505 Hilcroft
Houston, TX 77035
713.721.7788
www.houstonscubaacademy.com

Sea Sport Scuba bold text here9564 FM 1960 W
Houston, TX 77070
281.970.0941
www.seasportstravel.com

Tom`s Dive & Ski
5909 Burnet Rd
Austin, TX 78757
512.451.3425
www.tomsscuba.com

All three shops have spots available as of today.
Houston Scuba and Tom’s have 9 spots each. Sea Sport
only stated that the have openings available. The
published price for the trip is $570 plus tips for the
crew and captain. Nitrox is extra $65 I think at all
three shops.

I asked about nitrox certification for anyone going not
already certified (like myself) and only Houston Scuba
indicated being willing to make provisions for having
one of their instructors on the trip to do the lecture
and bookwork during surface intervals. Those details
would need to be worked out on an individual basis.

Houston Scuba requires no advance payment but requires
full payment at boarding. They said it makes life a lot
simpler if the captain decides to cancel before
departure due to weather. The others require full or
partial payment at booking.

The closest airport is Houston. Unfortunately the
Fling’s captain makes the go/no go decision based on
the 1:00 pm weather report. Exactly the time many of us
will be air-born inbound to Houston so travel insurance
would be desirable.

Okay. I`ve already hit a snag. Just got word I`m having spinal surgery mid February, and will be in a hard brace for about 2 months, then on restricted activities for another 2 months. 3 level Cervical fusion. I can look at the trip again when I know I can heft the gear without doing any damage. Crap. Thanks for the great response, hope you guys go no matter what. - Kevin
