Seasteading - permanent city on the ocean

Is it just me or does the concept of seasteading sound great? Free to decide your own government, alliances, laws. Energy and financially self sufficient. Live on the ocean with seafood for dinner everynight.

The idea is really appealing. It would require a massive undertaking, not to mention cash, to get off the ground (pun intended). Seasteading.org has already done a lot of the research, now all that is left is to gather a large enough audience to participate.

A permanent city on the ocean could provide a place for unrestricted medical research. Aquaculture could also provide a good source of revenue.

I would scuba dive at least once a week if I lived on the ocean! Where do I sign up?

The concept sounds great but........ Early America tried different forms of government in the colonies but in the end it was the golden rule, he who put up the gold made the rules and if it works some country will claim it’s on their continental shelf or in their economic zone and tax it.

I think the only way it would work is if it’s part of a research project and some corporation is putting up the money for the construction.

Did you see Water World? They were looking for dry land :)

So even if an ocean city was under the control of a particular country. It would still be a great idea and I would love to be involved.

There would have to be a system in place to kick off slackers. And you could literally make them walk a plank :) But I’m sure the cost to entry would be high enough that you’d weed out most of the slackers.

Free loaders, walking the plank, no democracy, this ocean city is turning Lord of the Flys. LOL.

The SeaOrbiter sounds like it will actually be a reality soon. Really cool concept and design. Man, what I would give to be involved on a project like that!

There is a great huge plastic gyre in the middle of the pacific and atlantic ocean. Perhaps something can be done to build on it?
