Dive Log question/suggestion

This is mostly for Greg. I used the new dive log function on the site for the first time today and I like it a lot! Love the ability to add your buddies off a pull down menu. Is there any chance we can have the dive log number your dives and keep a running tally? On the old site we could manually list how many dives we have made. In a perfect world I’d like to start this last dive as #265 and have it add from there. I lost my dive log a long time ago and my computer will go out eventually. Logging them in here would be a great place to save them :-) Thoughts?

yes I agree with a counter as we did have 1 on the old site which was nice to also see how many dives a possible DiveBuddy had. One other thing that Ive noticed about the dive log, is there is no box/option for a Shore dive.

I would also add that it would be nice if everyone who logged dives would also share visibility and condition information for the benefit of other divers planning their dives. I have also been using the dive log and it is one of my favorite features of the new site!

There is no option of seeing others dive logs in relation of visibility and or experiencing of the dive/s. However if you dive at a dive site that is in our DiveBuddy.com Dive Site data, you can simply make a comment on that site about the dive Vis/depth/ or any other information that you do not see on that dive site info and if there is Not a dive site in our data, Create one for that site, We welcome and encourage comments and content about the dive/site and it will be viable information for future and other divers diving that site or area.

Thx for the comments. I will see what I can do about a starting dive number then a tally from then on. That’s a good idea. Also, you can add viz to the divelog and when you choose the check box to share your log description on the dive site page...it also adds your viz selection and other data as a comment on the dive site page. So it sort becomes a dive trip report that is posted on the dive site.

I agree Rich. Since Greg took away our slot for # of dives and it would take forever to go back and log almost 500 dives it would be nice to be able to start a tally from where we are now.

On the Dive Log Summary page (
http://www.divebuddy.com/divelog_summary.aspx ) it shows the Total Dives that have been logged. What if I add the ability for you to add a "starting dive count" that adds to the Total Dives figure? So if your starting dive count is 50 and you’ve logged 5 dives into DiveBuddy, the Total Dives would show 55.

I can do just that easily. There are issues if you want me to add a dive number to each log. First of all, I allow you to accumulate your daily dives into one log. There is a number of dives option when logging a dive. For example, you could have one dive log that accounts for 3 dives. I did it this way to make it easier to log multi dives in one day. So how would I number each dive log since I allow multiple dives in one log?

And do I re-number the logs based on the starting dive count. What if you change the starting dive count? I would have to re-number again.

I guess I’m talking myself out of keeping a dive number on each log...but I can easily add the starting dive count so that it affects the Total Dives that is shown on the Dive Log Summary page. Is this good for you all?

Following up on this subject....do we have the ability to do this yet Greg? I checked out my dive log and didn’t see any new functions. I’m diving tomorrow and would like to make it dive #267 instead of dive #2 :-)

Awesome! Thanks Greg. Now how is is possible to add that number (or give a choice to show?) on each person’s profile page. I personally never turn away a buddy due to lack of experience. We all have to start sometime. But I know some will. So maybe there can be a box to check? Thoughts?

I give you an inch, you want a foot :) Rather than do this, I may consider making a member’s entire dive log viewable from their profile.
