Check out www.divegearexpress.com

They carry a good selection of technical dive computers that can be configured all they way up to rebreather and the prices are pretty decent. Depending on what type of diving you plan on doing and the software required you can get a great deal.

I have one of these and love it. Its the one to buy if your going tech. You can program 5 gas mixes into it and and switch gas in the middle of you dive. You program the gases your going to use and if your not using the right gas it will alert you to switch. It can be bought less than $1000.00. The software can be upgraded via blue tooth/internet. It can be used for rec or tech dive air, nitrox and trimix. Your probably going to need a back up like a bottom timer. FYI you can dive trimix using a nitrox/air computer, thats what I did until I saved enough for my Predator SA. This would have been my second choice although its more money.

That’s what I had/still have it, a Cochran Nitrox Commander. Its been a good one for me. Its just a little out dated for me. But its not even close to the Shearwater.

Dive computers, it really depends on the type of technical diving you are planning to do and the money you want to spend. Upgradable computers seem to be the trend and it really makes sense to be able to upgrade a computer with a new program to fit your diving activity. I mostly see divers wearing Shearwater computers for both open circuit and rebreathers. I use a simple three gas computer by Dive Rite a long with a bottom timer, it seems to fit the type of diving I’m doing just fine.

For OC, you should be able to get along with a 3-gas computer like the DR Nitek Trio or equivalent. This will allow you to do computer calculated diving with any Nitrox mix as back gas and 50% and 100% for deco. If you need tri-mix capability, you can always go to gauge mode and use your tri-mix tables or invest about 3x to 5x the money and buy a Trimix computer.

For CCR or SCR, you are going to have to shell out some big bucks on computing power, as detailed by others above.
