Need one more diver to make it 4 divers for a Bahamas Dive trip 2nd-9th Feb 2011. The cost of the house will be $350 a person plus $50 deposit. We are splitting the cost of groceries and beer then renting a boat for the week. We will dive on our time and places we want to dive. Screw the dive shops! They love to drain your bank account. We are renting a 21’ center console and there is no stopping us. Lunch on a deserted island and shallow dives all day will work for me. Any questions please email chet.mcdonald [ at ] gmail.com

I have a question. Where are you getting your tanks and who is going to fill them?

Well we will use the dive shops for tank rentals and odd and end stuff. The boat rental place provides maps with GPS coordinates for all the dive spots. A friend of mine is covering the cost of the boat rental because Im paying for his flight from Scotland. We will dive where we want to when we want to. Dive shops are close to the Villa or right on the water. We will most likely rent a few tanks at a time to keep from having to go back to the dive shops all the time.

Oh, OK. Now I’m really confused. Your initial posting said "Screw the dive shops. They drain your bank account." But now you want to use them for tanks. Now my question is : What if the dive shops see your posting and then they say "screw you" when you show up for their tanks? Just a thought.

Actualy I have my own small compressor. Let me count the stories from dive shops... Its late, its saturday, its raining, and the list goes on and on and on. The only way to dive is self suffeciantcy. Here In Saudi I have done the best dives of my life and never had to depend on a dive shop. I like adventure not the same picked over reefs that 1,000s of other divers have done. If you want to shell out about $700 extra on a dive trip to a dive shop and dive where they want you to be my guest. If you want to dive a unique dive rent a boat and strike out on your own. Thats what life and diving is about my friend sure this once I said "screw the dive shops" but I will lean on them. Believe me they will make thier money. some of those places are money machines and dont have your interest at heart. The point of a dive trip is not to serve the dive shops its for them to serve you. I think thats something that has been lost over the years.

I’m sorry that I cannot relate to the problems in Saudi diving. But here in south Florida and in the Bahamas the dive charters all go out of their way to give divers a great experience. And with as few as 4 divers you can rent the entire boat and they will go ANYWHERE you want and they will supply the tanks. Many even supply free bottled water and sodas and towels. Many spots are so secluded you will never even see another boat or divers.

I hope you enjoy you trip. I think you will find the service here very different then what you have seen in your area.
