Roatan has walls just like Coz but with more fish and less vis and current.
What kind of divers will be there depends on what groups are staying there at the time. Some dives are guided so quietly tell the DM to keep an eye on your wife.
Not much there in the way of shore diving except for the plane wreck in the boat channel where the viz is even less. They did take us to Tabinana (sp?) beach once and the shore dive there was great.
If you walk out of AKR to the road, turn right and walk a few hundred feet to a botanical garden on the left that is a nice place to off gas. Bring drinks and bugspray, it gets hot away from the beach!

I was at Anthony’s Key April 2008 and had a great time. The place is wonderful, the staff is great, food was also great, you’ll have a great time there. I stood on the hill rather than the Key (the food and diving boats are located on the hill) and if I went there again, I’d do the same thing (people complained it got windy out there in the night/morning). As far as shore diving, aside from the channel already mentioned, you can go out off the back end of Anthony’s Key, and there is some great diving out there (just plan it according on which way the current is running that day). There is a rope out there to help guide you out through the shallow reef to where there is a drop off. I went out there for quite a few relaxing snorkels, and saw plenty of life out there...saw a few turtle out there each time. Enjoy, and if you have any other questions, let me know.

AKR is my fav. so far.. A lot of Bang for the Buck.. End of Dec. is past the rainy season..You’ll love the place.. Far better then Coz.. They will group everyone according to experience.. They have excellent crews on thier boats.. She will be a great diver after a week at AKR.. I am considering end of Jan. 2011 anyways.. Maybe you’ll decide to stay forever and I’ll get to dive with ya then..

Suggestion about wife’s mask: I bought several which seemed to be a good fit in the store but leaked more than I liked. My face is narrow at the temples, which is where the water leaked in. I ended up buying a child’s scuba mask. That did the trick. Little to no leakage since then. And children’s masks are about 1/2 the price of adult masks.

I have not stayed at AK but have dove from another location just north of there. The diving compared to Coz. is none drift diving. Easier. lots of places to do shallow dives 60 ft. or less. Vis averages about 80ft. most days we were there.
