Hi,

Some friends and I are planning on going diving in the Caymans the last full week of June. Can anyone recommend a good place to stay? Any other recommendations would be aappreciated as well, as we have not been before.

Thank you!

I and was in Grand Cayman just before the holidays for 8 days and stood at Sunset House and really enjoyed my stay there. We did two morning boat dives, and then unlimited shore diving all day long (if you want to go crazy, you can literally dive around the clock, one guy was crazy and would do 7 dives a day...the most I did was 5 in a day and I was exhausted by the end of the day). The shore dives there are nice, they have the "famous" Amphitrite, 9 foot bronze mermaid statue as well as a small ship wreck (a WWII troop carrier). I have a few pictures of Grand Cayman in my profile, check them out and if you have any questions send me a message.

Thank you so much for the information. I will definitely look into both places.

I appreciate the response.

Little Cayman Beach Resort. By far the best!

Stay away from the other two islands. Little Cayman has the best diving.

Ditto on Sunset House, the squid pictures in my profile are on the above mentioned beach dive.

Next month I’m going with a LDS to Cobalt Coast, I’ll post a trip report on that when I get back.

While we are on the subject. Are there any resorts where a none diving spouse (my Wife in this case) could acttually stand to be for a week? Not just a dive shack.

I don’t know of any dive shacks on Cayman, the island is too upscale for that and so are the shops and she’ll have a ball with your credit card while you are diving :)

Agree that Little Cayman is the place to be. Grand Cayman has more "night life" but pretty commercialized and to me the diving is only so-so. Also agree that Little Cayman Beach Resort is great. Individual bungalows, right on the beach, with nice hammocks and places to walk and ride on bikes. Nice central "restaurant" where you can get meals, or can cook in your bungalow. Bike travel is the way to go around the island.

All depends on what your wife likes to do if she wants a nice getaway where she can read and enjoy peace and quiet, then Little Cayman is the place to be. If she wants tons of other people around, constant high dollar shopping, casinos, and big night life, you’ll want to do Grand Cayman. But if you do Grand Cayman, you’ll miss the really good diving on Little on Bloody Bay Wall. Been both places, and Grand pales by comparison dive-wise to Little. What you really need to do is to get your wife diving, so she’ll enjoy the same things you do....

My vote goes to Little Cayman Beach Resort. Not much for a non-diver to do but for a diver it is as good as it gets. Take a look at the blog I wrote on my profile regarding a trip I took there in October. One of the major dive magazines recently put it on their list of the top ten dive sites in the world. You won’t be dissapointed.

Grand, Little or Cayman Brac? I have been to all.
