blood shot eyes from free diving

I went free diving last Saturday and on Monday had some blood shot eyes. I have no pain and my vision is 100%. I called the advice nurse and she said it would go away and that I had nothing to worry about.

She could’nt give me a straight answer as to when I can dive again. It appeared as though she didn’t have too much experience with this problem. Does anyone out there have any past experience with this?

Thanks for you input.

I’m not a diving medical specialist, so do call DAN, but it sounds to me like you just got a little mask squeeze while free diving. Its easier to have happen while free diving because its harder to equalize with out a reg in your mouth. And you dont think about the mask sucking on your eyeballs when you reach depth. But do call DAN and see what they say. :) And let us know what the concensous is please!

I called DAN and they were very helpful. I let them know the situation and they said that I could go back as soon as I’m comfortable. As long as my eye sight is fine and that I don’t repeat the scenario. When this happened I definitely felt the squeeze and knew that I was pushing it. It was my last ab and was ready to call it a day. So I know now when to abort the dive and return to the surface. They also recommended a free diving mask it is a low profile mask that clears much easier than a regular scuba mask.

Very cool........greatly appreciate it

Yes I am familiar with them. I use to be a memeber a while ago. I just didn’t think to contact them until your suggestion.

Thanks again.
