Rented snorkeling equipment summer of ’08 [ at ] scuba shop and then purchased my own equipment and snorkeled around my sisters pool all summer trying to get over my fear of the water.
Scuba was just a natural progression. Glad I did it!

Sea Hunt! I wanted to be Mike Nelson! He was so cool, I was 5 years old.

Jacques Cousteau shows on tv, and my Grandfather that did underwater demolition (begining of the Navy seals) during WWII, which I still have some of his old scuba gear from that era!

I’ve always been a water baby.
That and it’s much more interesting underwater than it is above water.

Something I always wanted to try. Loved being in the water and I wanted to be able to stay down longer than my lungs would allow. I did a Discover Scuba while on a cruise to St. Maarten and fell in love.. Been blowing bubbles ever since.

Always loved the water, and the feeling of flying is always a plus.

That and I love going places where other people have not been.

I would love to say "an inherant love for the oceans" or " a desire to immerse myself (punn intended) into the greatest environment on this planet" got me into giving... but all of those things came much later in my diving career.

Truth be told, I started diving because of an old tv show called "Sea Hunt" Every week I’d sit by the old Black & White TV (yes they actually made those at one time). I’d eagerly wait to see what adventure Mike Nelson (aka Lloyd Bridges) would dive into this time. He was the ultimate Action Hero of the day...

Hans Christian Anderson’s "The Little Mermaid". Ever since I read the story and saw the movie as a child (not Disney’s version, an older one), I wanted to be a mermaid. Scuba is the closest I can get to it, until I grow gills, of course.

I always loved being near the ocean, and one day I ran into a buddy and he mentioned that he got into diving. That was 3 1/2 years ago and I’ve been most weekends ever since!!

I was snorkeling on the Great Barrier Reef in the mid-ninties and watched a group of four divers pass under me. I made a vow right then and there to someday learn to dive. It took almost ten more years before I finally got certified. Wish I had done it sooner.
